About Us
The Culture Project equips this generation to build a culture of love and life.
We live in a culture where many voices tell young people that they have value if they are attractive, smart, wealthy, successful, athletic or popular. That they have to earn their value.
Many voices tell young people that their life is random and it has no purpose. That pleasure and success will bring them happiness. Many voices tell young people that relationships are transactional. That their desire for lasting, committed love isn’t realistic.
In our work with young people, we aim to equip them to understand that their value comes from who they are, not what they can do. That they are the result of love, not random chance. That they are not an object to be used for another’s priorities, but that they should only ever be treated with love. That the only thing which will bring them real happiness is to be loved and to love in return.
We are a group of young people who have experienced the effects of a culture of use, and have decided to live differently.
Sam’s* story is just one example of our experiences. Sam met us at one of our events. She shared her story with us:
At 11 years of age, she had been exposed to pornography for the first time.
At 14, she was receiving unwanted sexts from online strangers.
At 15, she helped a classmate battle an eating disorder.
At 16, she was self-harming, depressed and addicted to porn.
At 17, she was convinced her worth was defined by academic success, tried starving herself to be skinny and received suicide threats from her best friend.
By the time she was ready to graduate, the message was this: there is no purpose in life, people are dispensable and real love doesn’t exist.
This is not just one of our stories, but the experiences of this generation.
Today, more than ever, young people need to know there is more to their story. In any given community, we don’t have to look far to find young people suffering the effects of one deep, underlying problem: we don’t know that we have value or that our lives have purpose.
The Culture Project is a response of young people to build a culture not of use but of love and life. By talking about our experiences, sharing a message of hope and committing to ongoing personal growth, we aim to help young Australians distinguish between love and its counterfeits, and to deeply understand their worth. We want this generation of youth and young adults to enjoy thriving, integrated lives fuelled with purpose and authentic love. This is the mission of The Culture Project.
To pursue this mission, we…
Present in schools and run workshops for community groups
Journey with other young adults seeking purpose and authentic love
Offer an immersive leadership program to those who want to roll up their sleeves in sharing their experiences with other young people.
